Thought I forgot about my blog? Nope. Just been distracted and constantly not knowing what to post about.
I was thinking about something though: Service animals and emotional support animals.
I am in the frustrating place of being an animal lover and highly allergic to pretty much anything with fur. I wonder if part of the reason why my cat allergies are so bad is that I tried to keep my 2 cats long after I developed allergies.
I never want to deny anyone their service animal or their support animal, but its been getting harder for me to deal with as more and more people have them. When I can, I'll leave the area, or get as far away as I can and suffer through it. I don't want to complain to any of the people or make an issue, but I wonder if there is a better way for me to deal with it.
Belive me, I'd rather be able to be near them and talk to the owners about how much I like their animals, but my allergies are just too severe. It just sucks having to avoid something you really like and not really being able to fully avoid it anyway.
Oh, I should mention an allergy-related dream I had recently:
A company had these 3 flowers that were useful in many ways. They had to keep them in sperate rooms otherwise they would react somehow and damage each other and they just had one of each. For me, if I was exposed to them in a certain order it would neutralize all my allergies for an couple of hours. I had to expose myself to them in the reverse order before time was up or all my allergies would return and the flowers would never work for me again. The reverse order however would bring some of my allergies back for a couple of hours - and it was random which ones. After that I could let the time elapse and my allergies would slowly return to normal but I could still use the flowers. If I was exposed to the flowers in any other order, nothing happened.
So, that's it for today. I still exist so feel free to drop me a line or chat. sneezykate@hotmail.com works for e-mail, skype, and hangouts.
This is a history and description about how my severe nasal allergies have impacted my life and how I am trying to deal with it.

Sorry for the wait!
I am sorry I have been so bad again at posting to my blog again. Life gets busy and motivation gets low.
Tree pollen season has started, so my allergies have been starting to get worse. Although the snowstorms have helped dip the pollen levels. I just saw the following article. I guess its not in my head that my allergies have been feeling worse each year:
https://www.vox.com/science-and-health/2018/3/14/17109336/allergies-climate-change-pollen
I had an allergy related dream a few weeks ago. I just remember that my nose was running literally non-stop, and I had no tissues or anything to deal with it. As people came by, they would pinch my nose closed and the runniness would stop, and then start back up again after they left. If I tried to pinch my own nose it wouldn't work and I would have a sneezing fit. Kinda weird, and its the only part i can remember.
I have a bit of Q+A:
Q: How many times do you sneeze in a row?
A: Depends on the time of year. On average, less than 10 in the winter, can be over 20 at the height of allergy season. That's average. there is the rare occasion i will only sneeze a few times, and occasionally I sneeze non-stop for a long time, so now way to keep track of how many they are.
Q: Does sneezing relieve pressure and make you feel better or make you feel worse?
A: It doesn't make me really feel any better, but it doesn't make me feel worse. Mostly seems like it has no impact on how I feel, other than tiring me out and embarrassing me.
Q: Are allergies frustrating for you or are you used to them?
A: Both. I am used to having them, but they are still very frustrating and I am used to having the frustration.
Q: Is it ever hard for you to fall asleep due to sneezing or allergies?
A: Plenty of times. Sometimes during allergy season I will get very little sleep or even no sleep at night for days and will end up dozing off for a few mins randomly throughout the days.
Q: Do you ever stifle?
A: Not usually. For some reason its hard for me to do. When i can do it, it hurt my sinuses and usually ends up making me sneeze more in the end.
As always, feel free to contact me to chat. sneezykate@hotmail.com for skype or e-mail is always best.

Sorry its been so long, some Q+A
I haven't posted in a while because I have been very busy, sorry about that. This will be a short post.
This spring my allergies have been very bad. I'm sneezing and snotting all over the place and my nose and eyes are always very itchy and swollen.
I had a weird allergy dream a few weeks ago, but I only remember 2 small parts. I was in a group of people who had allergies. They all had tissues and were blowing their noses but I didn't have any tissues. They told me I had to stop sneezing to be able to use any tissues, but I couldn't stop from sneezing. In another part, I was with a group of people again, and there was someone with me and my nose would run for a little bit, she'd wipe my nose with a really rough paper towel of some kind, then that would make me be about to start a sneezing fit and she'd put her finger under my nose until the feeling went away, then my nose would start to run for a bit, and that just kept repeating, and I just felt like I really needed to sneeze the whole time.
Q: How have you been?
A: Allergies have been bad. Otherwise pretty good
Q:Has this blog helped you at its original goal?
A: Not too much, maybe a little bit.
Q:What's your fav song/movie?
A: That's way too hard to say. A recent movie I have been thinking about a lot is 'Arrival'
That's all for today. Please contact me if you'd like with questions for my blog, or if you just want to chat.

Spring allergies, dream, and modes of transport
My allergies this spring seem to be coming on quicker than usual. I don't know if it will end up being a worse spring, but it feels like its been coming on about 2 weeks earlier than usual. Like right now my allergies feel like they usually do in the middle of April. Maybe everything is just 2 weeks early this year.
I had a weird/interesting dream a few days ago. I was a consultant for a video game about allergies. The dream got very detailed, but mainly it was a game where you played someone with allergies and had to get through daily life and other things for a set amount of time - like a day or an allergy season or a year or something. There were different difficultly levels, what things you are allergic to, and other settings to choose from. Winning was based on what version of the game you played. I think one was based on finding a cure for your allergy, or a way to keep them totally at bay. Another was minimizing how much resources you needed to use on controlling your allergies, and another was limiting impact your allergies had on your social life. I never saw the actual game in the dream, but it was some game developers talking to me about what they wanted the game to be about and me giving them information on how it would be realistic for someone with allergies, what the challenges are, etc. If you are interested in more, message me and I can probably remember more about it if we chat about it. The dream and game was actually kinda cool. I sort of wish a game like that was being made. I sure could consult on it, lol!
Someone suggested a blog topic to me I want to try. It was talking abut modes of transport and the advantages and disadvantages they have for my allergies. I will mention a few here, and if people want, I can add a few more/talk about ones people suggest. Just note, I am putting the ones down I think have the biggest impact, so off the top of my head, I am not sure how interesting others may be.
Airplanes: This is probably the worst for me. I have mentioned plane trips before. Its not that planes themselves make my allergies bad (I can run into random thing that make me allergic, but that can happen anywhere), but the altitude changes can get very painful for me. My sinuses get really intense pressure and pain and my ears can hurt so badly. The intense pressure and congestion makes me sneeze less, but the sneezes are pretty painful from it. After a trip across the country, I need about a day to recover and feel better.
Cars: This really depends on time of year/pollen season. In the winter I am usually fine. Some days in pollen seasons my allergies are too bad to drive. I also have had times where I have had to pull over if I feel a bad allergy attack coming on. As a passenger, again if pollen isnt an issue, everything is fine. During pollen season, the longer the car ride, the worse my allergies can get. If I am just with Allison, its not that bad, but if I am in the car with other people, its very embarrassing because I can't go run off anywhere, and my bad allergies can become the center of attention in the car.
As I mentioned above, if you want to know about other modes of transport, let me know. For ideas, these are some the person suggested: walking, riding a bicycle, travelling by bus, train, boat/ship.
I will keep trying to make posts more often, so please keep coming up with questions/ideas for me. As always, feel free to contact me to chat.

Dream bit and Q+A for May
Hi everyone. My allergies have been really bad lately. I have had to miss some days here and there and I am generally pretty icky and not sleeping well.
I remember part of a dream a few days ago where my allergies were acting up, and another woman in the group was complaining about her allergies, but she didn't seem to have any allergies. the more my allergies bothered me, the more she was complaining about hers.
I have a few questions to answer:
Q: How do your allergies impact your overall physical condition (beside the things having to do with allergies directly like congested nose)? You wrote that the sneezing helps to keep your abs in good shape. Are there other things about your physical condition which are affected – in a positive or negative way - by your allergies?
A: I don't know if there is much not related t my allergies -red nose, swollen eyes, etc. The things I can think of besides giving my abs a bit of a workout is being tired, being off balance sometimes, and skin rashes. Skin rashes are allergy-related but people tend not to realize it. In the warmer months they mistake it for sunburn.
Q: I know that you have to wipe your nose a lot, esp when your allergies are bad. How do you deal with this when you have to do something for which you need both your hands?
A: I put things down often, lol. I need to have a hand free pretty often, so I make sure that can happen when I need.
Q: Are your sneezes very snotty? Do you have to wipe your nose especially when you're sneezing? When you feel a sneeze coming, do you take a tissue before you actually sneeze to be „prepared“ for it?
A: Not always, but they certainly can be. I always use tissues when I am sneezing. I do tend to be snotty and I also am extra careful not to let people see my snot! I might be a bit obsessive about it, but I don't want people thinking I am gross so I am always careful in public.
Q: You told me that when your allergies aren't too bad, it can happen that you don't sneeze for about an hour. When your allergies are bad (e.g. during ragweed season), how long would you estimate the longest „non-sneezing“ time then?
A: At the most, maybe 15mins, but usually less
Q: Most of the allergy symptoms you explained are clearly recognizeable for others directly (sneezing) or almost directly (runny nose because you wipe it, congestion because your voice is stuffy). Which of the symptoms that are not recognizeable for others so easily would you consider being the most „unexpected“ ones, i.e. the symptoms which someone who doesn't have allergies himself would never guess to be caused by allergies? And which of these „not so well recognizeable“ symptoms are the most annoying for you?
A: This is pretty similar in my answer to the first question. Tiredness is probably the big one. When my allergies are bad it really wipes me out and its something that people don't really get. Another one is balance/dizziness. When my allergies are really bad my ears get all clogged up and it can sometimes make me feel dizzy and off balance. And even though much of it is noticeable, people don't realize how much my senses get impacted when my allergies are really bad - I can't smell or taste, its hard for people to understand what I am saying, seeing is sometimes difficult with swollen and very watery eyes, and clogged ears makes sound muffled.
Thanks for the questions, and keep them coming. As always I am happy to chat. Just drop a line to say hi. Allergies are really kicking my butt so I might be around online more, if its not so bad that I can't even do that!

Been Busy, Dream Bit, and Short Q+A
Things have been really busy with school and associated things. I am hoping in a few weeks things will settle down a bit. I like to get as much work don as I can when I am not feeling too bad.
I wanted to explain something that some people don't seem to get. Some people seem to not understand that I am allergic to other things besides pollen. I sometimes get asked 'Why do you still have allergies when there is no pollen?' That's because I am allergic to so much more! - dust, animals, smoke, feathers, molds, and many other things. The good thing is that many of those things I can avoid and/or get away from, so that I can recover from being exposed to it. I still have allergies this time of year, but they don't usually knock me out of commission like they often do at other times of year.
Two nights ago I had a dream where I had allergies. The only thing I can remember from it is that anytime I tried to talk I sneezed instead.
I have a few questions to answer, so here we go:
Q: When you do teach, does the sneezing make it difficult? And how do your students react? Can you go into more details about your response to the last question you answered about during class?
A: It certainly can. That's why I am lucky that I can do other things most of the time, like paperwork, making tests, grading tests, setting up labs, holding office hours, etc. I do have to do some teaching, and of course allergy attacks then can be embarrassing, but because of all the above, it doesn't happen too often. The students either giggle a bit or act bored or start looking at their phones or something til I am done. I am not sure what you mean by the last part of this question. Can you ask me a more specific question?
Q: I think it's great that you and Allison found each other and she helps you feel comfortable with her! Did you have some sort of discussion about how to work things out with your allergies, things to do or not do, expectations regarding them and intimacy, etc?
A: Yes, but it wasn't just one talk. We worked it out as time went on. It helps that she is a very understanding person, and that she also has allergies. She is very allergic to cats and ragweed, and somewhat allergic to dust, so she can understand the avoiding thing and the idea of being able to do some things and not others. She was very accommodating and very willing to work with what I needed, in general and in being intimate. Its really great because she is the first person I have dated that has really been like this. Some others made an attempt, but gave up and some others didn't even care.
That's it for now. As always, please leave comments and feel free to contact me.

A New Year and a New Q+A
Hi everyone. I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays.
As I mentioned in my quick note, I was planning on making a post, but I was sick with a bad cold all last week, so that really sucked. This week I have been busy with the start of the semester. Of course once I post that I probably won't have time to post, I find some time to post!
I did have a dream involving my allergies a few weeks ago, but I can't remember it now. Something about my allergies being bad but people were all wanting to look closely at my nose.
I do have many questions now to answer. Its only about 5 or 6 people, but one person had many questions.
Q: Have you ever considered moving to live somewhere where the winters are longer/the pollen season is shorter, or to somewhere with less allergenic plant life? Living by the sea is also supposed to be better for people with hayfever, I believe. I realize that moving isn't something that's easily done, but if it was a possibility for you, do you think it would be worth trying?
A: I have thought about it and looked into it years ago, but it doesn't help. It might help for a short time, but the allergies come back. Also, moving from the northwest to the northeast didn't make any difference for me.
Q: How does your family do in terms of your allergies? Are they accommodating or do they inadvertently do things that set them off sometimes?
A: They are good about it. back when I first got allergies, they were better about it than I was. Back then I never avoided anything because I hoped I would get over them or fight through them. They are also pretty good now at ignoring my sneezing fits and other allergy stuff, which is good.
Q: At this time are you still seeing an allergist? If so how are they trying to treat or help you and is it working?
A: Yes. Been seeing allergists since I got allergies. They are always amazed at how bad my allergies are. I am on a number of different things, but they don't help much. We occasionally switch things to see if something will help more.
Q: So, how many sneezing fits did you have on the plane?
A: I didn't keep count, but certainly more than one. They are very annoying on the plane too. All the pressure in my sinuses and ears makes the sneezes a bit painful at times. It also makes it feel like I can't sneeze but will sneeze at the same time.
Q: You mentioned in some earlier posts that you can't blow your nose, and it got me to thinking (and this is merely a suggestion): I work at a preschool, and since babies/toddlers often can't blow their nose, we use a bulb syringe or some other suction device to literally suck the snot out. I was wondering, would suction work for you?
A: There are versions of those thing adults can use and I have tried them. I find them a bit of a hassle to use, and they don't seem to work that well. I am not sure if its just me, or them in general.
Q: You said that generally you cannot blow your nose because it's so congested. When there are days on which you can blow your nose, how often do you blow it? And are you sniffling then?
A: Days when I can blow my nose are pretty rare, but the days I can, my allergies aren't bad enough for me to need to blow constantly. Maybe a few times a day, as I do find it kind of annoying to my nose even then. If it didn't annoy my nose, I'd probably do it a lot more often. I do try to sniffle a lot on those days, but I'd need to sniffle really hard to have much of an effect, and I don't want to be that loud so I will sniffle softly for a while, it won't do much, so I'll give up.
Q: When your allergies are bad, how much tissues do you spend a day for wiping your nose? You wrote that sometimes you carry a whole box with you, how many tissues are contained in such a box?
A: I never kept track, but I can easily go through a big box on those days. A bit over 200 in the big boxes that I get.
Q: You wrote that you sang in a choir before your allergies got worse. Do or did you play a musical instrument? Is it / would it be possible for you to play a musical instrument in a useful way concerning all your allergy hassles, especially the constant szeening and nose wiping?
A: I never had much of an interest in musical instruments. I haven't tried any other. If I did try, I'd think something that I didn't have to blow into would be easier for me to play.
Q: You wrote that sometimes you don't drive because of your allergies. What about riding a bicycle? Are there days on which biking is impossible for you too?
A: Its the same kind of thing, although in some ways biking is better cause its easier to start and stop and its at much lower speeds. It can be worse though in that I am more directly exposed to pollen and stuff on a bike.
Q: Do you do some sports, i.e. jogging or running? If yes, how easy or difficult is this concerning your allergies?
A: The ones I like the best are soccer, volleyball, and swimming. I had to give up competing in them because my allergies got too bad, especially with soccer. I still play volleyball for fun when I can, and I swim a bit, but at pools the chlorine bothers me, and when I am underwater I feel the pressure in my head.
Sorry if the answers are kinda short. I guess with so many I might have made my answers quick. Let me know if you want expansion or clarification on anything.

Some dreams and one Q to A
I don't have much to write about, but I didn't want to go so long without another post.
I recently had a dream having to do with my allergies. I was just doing things in the dream like walking to a store, in a store of some kind, at a friends house, etc. I didn't have any tissues on me for some reason. Every time I needed to wipe my nose, blow my nose, have a sneezing fit, etc., someone would come up to me with tissues and do it for me, like hold them to my nose while I was sneezing, wipe my nose when it was runny, etc. It weirded me out, but I couldn't get anyone to stop doing it or to hand me the tissues instead. I could talk to them about anything, except abut why they were doing that with the tissues. The whole dream was just a bunch of that.
I had another weird dream recently. It had nothing to do with allergies, but I just wanted to post it anyway. In the dream it was like I was progressing through months of being pregnant in just minutes, and then reversing, and it as going back and forth like that a few times. I'd suddenly start getting bigger and have to unbutton and unzip my clothes and then when I got so big I had to start taking off my clothes, I started to become 'unpregnant', and when I got back down to my normal size and had to rebutton and such, soon after I'd start to get pregnant again. Very weird (no, I am not wishing for kids right now, lol).
Not much in the way of questions, but here is what I have:
Q: Earlier, you wrote about the sneezing room. Growing up, did you wish for other ways of dealing with your allergies?
A: I feel like this should be a long and interesting response, but sadly I do not have much else to say. The only other way I wished for to deal with my allergies that I can remember is not to have them.
Sorry if this post was a bit lame, but I wanted to get something up before TG.
As usual, please make comments and feel free to ask me questions or to contact me. I'd like to know that more than just a few people are reading!

Sneezing room and an allergy dream
When I was in high school I used to always wish something I called a 'sneezing room' existed. They are small rooms, sound-proof, with a small bench or chair, a few boxes of tissues and a sink. This way I could go in there, not be disturbed when I am having an allergy attack or sneezing fit, and noone would see or hear it.
Last week I had a weird dream about my allergies. My nose was really long, longer than my arm. My nose was being very drippy, but I couldn't do much about it because my nose was too long. Everyone was telling me that if I sneezed, it would stop. I told them I didn't want to sneeze, but they kept doing things to make me start sneezing, then right as I was about to start sneezing they all told me not to sneeze and someone would grab and squeeze closed the end of my nose. It was very uncomfortable for me, and then when the feeling of needing to sneeze went away, they person would let go of my nose. Then when it started dripping again, they started to tell me to sneeze again, etc. That cycle went on a few times before I woke up.
I had another allergy dream recently but I can't remember it.
Please be sure to send me questions to answer, and feel free to contact me to chat on e-mail or yahoo messenger, or possibly skype.

Short dream and Q+A
Wow, its been so long again since I have posted. I really want to post more, its just that I can't think of much and I keep putting it off. I had a dream two nights ago that had a part to do with allergies, and I have a question to answer, so here we go!
I know I was having a few dreams, but this one part I remembered. For some reason, my nostrils were huge, like 2 or 3 inches wide. They were full of snot and I was having a hard time keeping it from gushing out, as all I had was a small tissue. I was in a big house and I kept going from room to room to find a place to blow my nose before everything gushed out. Every room I went into had people in them and I was too embarrassed to blow my nose in front of anyone.
Ok, that's all of the dream I remember. Here is the very short Q+A:
Q: Do you remember how long is your longest sneezing fit? After having these huge attacks, how do you feel?
A: Oh I have had some be very very long. Its not common, but its gone into the hundreds at least. After any long attack, not even in the hundreds I feel totally wiped out/exhausted, and sometimes my muscles can feel sore. I have even passed out from sneezing so much, if the fit won't let me get air in. That tends to make the fit stop though, lol.
Thanks for the few of you who keep reading. Please ask me questions/give me ideas for posts, and feel free to say hi if I am online.

Not much to post/dream bits
Its been so long since I posted. I don't know if many people read this anymore since I haven't been getting many comments or questions lately.
Ragweed has been starting up around here and I am severely allergic to it, so its making me pretty miserable
I recently had 2 bits of dreams that had to do with my allergies.
In one dream, people were trying to figure something out that was very important. I figured it out but every time I tried to tell anyone I would start having a huge allergy attack and I was unable to communicate. Once I would give up, the attack would stop, only to start up again if I tried telling someone what I knew.
In another, during part of a dream I was in a house and I was sneezing non-stop, and when I would go outside the sneezing would stop but my nose would start running/gushing like crazy. If I went back in, the running would stop and the sneezing would start again.
That is all I have for today. Let me know if you have any questions, and feel free to comment or drop me a line.

long awaited update for June
Sorry its been so long. I just haven't been in the posting mood. I wanted to update 2 things.
I tried the nasal filters and they were much less impressive than I had hoped. They don't stay in the right place, I can feel them in there and they get gunked up with snot pretty quickly. They only helped mildly anyway. I used them for about 5 days then I gave up on them.
I have been in the drug trial and will be for at least a few more weeks. It is somewhat helpful. Its not totally getting rid of my symptoms but its helping in some areas. I am getting some side effects. Nothing horrible but they can be annoying.
I also had a wacky dream a few days ago. It only slightly had to do with my allergies though. I visited a friend I hadn't seen since I was a kid. When I got there I needed to change, and when I had all my clothes off except my panties for some reason I walked with my friend though the house having a conversation. I then realized I was mostly naked but every time I meant to go back to get clothes on, I would run into someone and start having a conversation and then partway through realize I was naked and then try to go get clothes, but then run into someone else: her family, her parents, other friends, random people, etc. I would talk to the person, then after a bit I would get a strange look from then and then I would realize I was mostly naked. At one point I was told I had to hold some flowers, and they started me sneezing and my nose running and I didn't have a sleeve so I kept switching between looking for tissues and getting my clothes but never doing either. For some reason I wasn't able to put the flowers down. After a bit of that, the dream ended.
Any ideas on what the dream might mean? Any more questions for me so I can do a new Q+A?

Dream and nasal filters
Two posts in two days! Crazy huh? Anyway I had a dream last night and it got me looking for stuff online today and I wanted to see if anyone had any opinions on this too.
Last night I dreamed I was part of a superhero team. I had to wear a face mask when we went to do superhero stuff so allergens couldn't bother my nose and interfere with out missions. The cover story was that I was an alien and I exhale a toxin so the mask was to protect others. This way villains wouldn't try to take it off me. I could only ever have the mask off in one part of our base that had an airlock and was designed to be allergen-free.
The dream got me thinking about face masks. The problem is that unless I wear one 24/7 (like I guess I did in the dream) its not going to keep my allergies away and putting a mask over an already allergic nose is not helpful and is actually annoying. The only time I really ever use a mask is when I am doing the research assistant stuff so that I don't get anything on the experiments since I need both my hands for my work. I have to keep going off and clean out the mask or replace it if I can't clean it out anymore.
I decided to look over allergy masks again and I found this thing called a nasal filter. They seem really interesting but I don't know if they would work for me. There seems to be 2 major types:
http://www.breathecleanerair.org/
and
http://www.supermasknasalfilters.com/
I would think the first type would work better, but on the 2nd type they talk about how the first type inserts fall out often, how they are more irritating, and easier to see. I think the irritation part could be a real hassle for me and I like that the 2nd type is harder to see.
Does anyone have any experience with any kind of nasal filter or know enough about them to answer some questions that I have about them?

Back to school and dreams
I have been back for a few days now, getting ready to go back to classes and stuff. I am pretty much recovered from the flight so that's good.
I had a dream last night where my eyes were itchy from allergies and someone was trying to do something to relive the itchiness. I was sitting in a chair and they were telling me not to rub my eyes and they were putting something around my eyes, or maybe drops in my eyes...I forget exactly. But I remember that they kept getting more and more itchy and I kept saying "aren't they supposed to get less itchy?" and I was told "just give it some time and don't rub them!" each time I asked. That's all I remember.
Dreams are interesting. Sometimes I don't have allergies at all in them, sometimes I do but they are weird or different or only one part is there, like the eye itchiness last night. Weird stuff.
